Role of PR in NGO and Government

PR is an Exercise to Reach Out in the Minds of People

Ahmedabad, November 09, 2012: “Since long we all human beings which are considered to be intellectually living species on the earth and trying to define and getting the importance of public relations amongst ourselves”. In a way to highlight the role of public relations in NGO and government sector, Mr. P K Lahiri, the former Chief Secretary of Government of Gujarat said that “PR is an exercise to reaching out to the society and minds of people for making them aware where people build goodwill and perception about an organization or entity”.

Four decades of his experience as a bureaucrat he insist that in government sector pull and push processes are being applied which propagate the need based communications. Mr. P K Laheri delivering his lecture organized by Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Ahmedabad Chapter further said “Public Relations is very effective tool to reach out to the target audience.”

With the help of different psychological and philological principals he also added PR is always associated with stable mind by explaining 10 to 18 seconds ads in daily soap operas. There is no scope of give and take in public relations; job of a PR person is to give information which aware and awake the people towards sustainable development.

In present scenario, PR practices must go hand-in-hand to preserve the entities. While responding the questions of the audience pertaining to unethical and legal PR practices, he says, “law has not made for mandatory, it is made for recommendatory”. He ended with the quote of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai,”The day we as people take medium for entertainment not as education, we have not achieved anything”.

On this occasion, Mr. Dilip Chauhan, Chairman, Shailesh Goyal, Vice Chairman, Mr R K Singh, Secretary and Dr Shirish Kashikar, Executive Committee member, PRSI, Ahmedabad Chapter spoke on the occasion.
